REVIEW: Young Readers love stories that are not only bright as well as colourful but take them into an immersive world where they can meet new friends who they can learn and play with. Mike the Knight is a great introduction to the TV series as well as a world that is peopled with a fun supporting cast that have a persona for each child to associate with.
All in this book is fun, full of wonderful illustrations and of course has a storyline that will inspire and teach your own young reader positive attributes as they learn with Mike and the gang. Great stuff.

REVIEW: Michelle Harrison is a sickening talented author, the writing grips you from the start with the author having a great understanding of not only what her audience wants but delivers it with ease. This title, featuring Eliott, a boy who was involved in a car accident that left him dead for two minutes, has been having recurring nightmares where he awakes paralised or not even within his body and seeing spirits. Not sure whether he’s going mad or if he has a mystery to solve, its an adventure that will keep you guessing throughout.
All in, this title is a cracking change to what Michelle has achieved before, but add her usual style of twists, turns and characters that you feel that you really get to know as well as enjoy spending time around and you’ll find that this tale passes quite quickly. All in a wonderful read and definitely an experience for the reader, especially if you read it late at night with just a book light. Magical.

REVIEW: This has been a hard book to review, not because of the subjects tackled within but because I felt that the book was below what I expected from Philippa’s writing skills. Don’t get me wrong it’s a complete story but one that I’ve noticed with her adult writing is that when it’s based on a well-documented person it works wonderfully, yet when left to writing based on the authors imagination, it sadly falls apart and as with the recent Cousin’s War series a lot of repetition between each title.
What this book brings to the table is a farfetched story with so coincidences alongside flaws that had it not had the authors name attached I’m not sure it would have made it to the shelves. The characters are confusing, there’s no real direction with them and events seem to have been woven by strength of author rather than feeling natural. Add to this a story that feels like the pace is all over the place, characters that don’t feel rounded but thrown into a different timeline to suit the authors purpose and with a convoluted plotline that feels that additional ideas have been wedged in to fit the word count and all in I was disappointed with the overall product.
Don’t get me wrong; had it been a debut author, a lot of the errors within could have been forgiven as over zealousness alongside lessons that needed to be learned, but from a multi title writer these should never have occurred.

REVIEW: Does life follow a set course? Are we masters of our souls? The Captains of our ships or are we just a strand woven into a greater tapestry where our lives touch on others to create a greater whole than ourselves? These are some of the questions that you find yourself asking in this story by Sarah Alderson and whilst she’s added a supernatural element to the story (almost Buffyesque) it’s the complexities as well as fully fleshed characters that get you to stay.
Don’t get me wrong, the plotline is strong, the twists wonderful but when you get a character that you just love to be around such as Evie, you really can’t put the book down for fear of missing something huge in her life. This, for me, is the sign of a good author and as such I read this book in a very short time.
Add to this a good use of pace, a wonderful sense of humour alongside an author who knows how to twist the emotional worries of everyday within and it’s a story that I absolutely loved. I really can’t wait to read more by Sarah and hope that its not too long a wait for her next offering.

REVIEW: Sophie McKenzie is an author who either hits the mark for me or misses quite badly and whilst I’m not her biggest fan, I can appreciate a well written, cleverly plotted title. Following on from Girl, Missing, this title is the second and thrusts the reader into a world of kidnapping, hard choices and of course heartache.
All of that is present within and the author deals with it sensitively as well as providing the reader with a story that will keep them glued from the first page to the last. The prose is crisp, the dilema’s very real and with a lead character who has a hard road and even harder choices to make that the reader can associate with it’s a title that really will capture you from the first few pages to the last.
Finally add to the mix a great sense of accomplishment with the lead character as she works her way through and it’s an enlightening title as well as one of hope.

REVIEW: The sixth instalment in the hugely popular series featuring the Tempest Twins, Connor and Grace. As usual with Justin’s writing the tale is gripping from start to finish, the twists along the way will keep you glued and with the blood fest alongside two lead characters that step out of the pages into the imagination, it’s a title that will enthuse as well as please the reader.
Add to this some great prose, decent dialogue and continual growth for the characters within which when backed with a cracking supporting cast make this a YA series that you really shouldn’t miss out on. Great stuff.

REVIEW: To be honest with you I wasn’t quite sure on this title and whilst I love a bleak future title as much as the next person, I had trouble getting to grips with the lead character, first of all she didn’t trust anyone and whilst this is due to a childhood injury it does leave the reader wondering why we should trust “her” as our heroine especially when there aren’t any real hooks to get into her so that the reader can associate. Second of all the title was all about the usual type of futuristic society where the poor are downtrodden and manipulated to allow the rich to get more powerful.
Finally add to this a love interest that if you followed the rest of society wouldn’t have been within a mile of this downtrodden minion of the future and you can see how far-fetched this title is becoming. Whilst I didn’t really enjoy this book there was a lot of potential and I did like the authors writing style so that I will keep an eye out for future titles by her, alas if the outline doesn’t make more sense next time then I think I might bypass her titles in favour of another author.

REVIEW: I always have a lot of fun with Mark Robsons work, whether its following an Imperial Assassin or riding on the back of dragons, you never know what you're going to get with each title apart from solid writing and a great adventure, everything else is up in the air awaiting the mental devouring of those lucky enough to pick up a copy of his book.
Here in this title Mark turns his hand at the Bermuda Triangle as Conan Doyle's Lost World meets futuristic Lizard Men with their own environmental apocalypse. Add to this a group of human rebels (ala Planet of the Apes) with a story told from the point of view of our twin heroes (Sam in the alternate world, Niamh in our own trying to find a way to get her brother and mother back) and you know that its building up for an epic series.
All in a great, if at times slightly confusing start but one that shows so much potential and options that we really can't wait to get our hands on the next title. Great stuff.

REVIEW: Having felt a little cheated with the least book that I read by these two authors (Dark Secrets 3) I was a little apprehensive to start a new series. I shouldn’t have been but you know when that little niggle has wormed its way between your shoulder blades that makes you wonder if it’s worth spending out for? Well that had been there for some time and unfortunately it had put me off starting this title.
Afterwards when I looked back, I can understand why it was there but did feel a little silly when I started this title and was pleasantly surprised as elements that I’d liked from the two authors writing styles came flooding back with some great characters, some interesting premises and a kick ass plotline that blew my expectations away. I really wondered why I’d delayed and with most of my niggles soothed away by the authors writing I suddenly rediscovered with a crash why I’d come to doubt them.
Whilst the concept and majority of the book felt like reinvention to a certain degree, when the principle heroine collapsed in the third act (mentally and physically) I suddenly remembered why I’d been put off the authors as this sequence felt more like a way to pad out an idea that was only half baked. Yes that top part was gooey, delicious and full of all sorts of wonder but the rest, not so much, just a big mess that needed more time before being taken out of the oven.
That said there is still a lot of interest to be had within but the authors really need to find a serious fix for the principle heroine and one that will allow the readers to see why she was suddenly given a lot of responsibility after the meltdown that felt like it would go on forever. While I do have problems with this book, I am prepared to give these two another crack of the whip provided that the next release in this series fixes a lot of the problems to do with our heroine. If they don’t then it’s pretty much the last book by them I’ll read.

REVIEW: To be honest this is the book that when I originally heard about it gave me goosebumps. This is purely for the fact that at times the series has taken a bit of a dive from the original releases and lost a lot of its lustre. That said however, I was a little apprehensive as I wondered if the author had left it a little late to reinvent and was possibly looking for an easy option to achieve the next release date. After all a chance to revitalise as well as reinvent doesn’t come around very often and with the chance to introduce new readers without them having read the other titles in the modern series left this more as a make or break type of title.
What originally will strike the reader with this book is that the characters are not only designed but fit into this world extremely well with traits that modern readers can associate with and when backed with some descent dialogue and a clear demonstration that the author plays for keeps, allows the reader to enjoy the whole story. The only real downside is the finish as it felt rushed and haphazard although with a bit of luck the author will return to play in the world of 1915 again.

REVIEW: If you’re a young female reader that wants a story of glitz and glamour built in with some typical teen worries about friends, boys and of course life, then this series by Cathy Hopkins will hit the spot. It has all these elements bound up with a neat little bow and of course a strong female lead that as she struggles through her own worries helps those with more to their lives achieve a more bearable sense of normality.
This, whilst being the second novel in the series, allows the reader to see our young female lead grow, helps her come to terms with some emotional difficulties as well as overcoming a curve ball or two. Ideal reading material and one that allows the reader to jump in even if they’ve currently missed the first one in the series whilst this leads comfortably the reader by the hand to look forward to Cathy’s next instalment.

REVIEW: To be honest I was apprehensive about this title, especially after reading the previous and discovered that this one was to feature Dylan as the principle player as, to be frank, I really haven’t liked her in the other titles as I felt that she was a little to selfish and self-centred to allow the reader to connect on a personable level.
Whilst this can seem a little strange, Sophie does her best to allow the reader to get to grips with Dylan as well as allowing them to understand some of her motives for being the way she is. The fact that Sophie also allows Dylan to grow as well as develop into a character with more complexities and nuances demonstrates a masters touch. All in a great title for the series and one that will hopefully take the next book to another level as the characters within seek to find their own place in the world as a group.

REVIEW: James writing to me is like a huge slice of cake, there’s so much decoration as well as great ingredients that it’s impossible to take it all in on the first reading. As such I just love the chance to reread the whole series just prior to starting the next title in order to refresh my memory as well as having the chance to enjoy the magical world unveiling itself.
What James also does well is give the reader a world full of imagination backed with some great prose alongside some seriously delightful dialogue. Back that up with a master’s touch and understanding of pace as well as characters that you just can’t let go after the final page is turned and you’ve got a real gem of a series to enjoy. Great stuff.

REVIEW: The new offering from Elizabeth Chandler and whilst the others have been compendiums this one is a standalone repackaging. The tale is reasonable, the characters do what you expect and whilst they’re not as rounded in this offering as the previous I suspect its due to not having to do a lot of the work as the readers are already hooked upon them.
All in, it’s reasonable and adds more layers to the previous two titles which will keep the younger teen reader happy.

REVIEW: Having loved the previous titles by Claire and Ben, I really couldn’t wait for this Christmas themed one to land, and whilst it was originally released back in October, it was a magical moment to save it for this, the holiday period. As usual, you get a quirky story as our heroes come to the rescue of Father Christmas as he makes his way to all the children in the world. It’s beautifully told, the illustrations a lot of fun as well as brightly coloured and it’s a great addition to any children’s library or a great story to help them get to sleep on the hardest night of the year.
All in a great book and one that we absolutely loved. With luck you’ll get the same pleasure the we did from this title.

REVIEW: Having reviewed the original Buffy rerelease, we just couldn’t wait to get our hands on this title to see if any of the problems that we’d had had been corrected. Whilst the paper quality was still the same, what we did get was what felt like a better class of writer as the simplistic style seemed to have disappeared to be replaced by authors with a better understanding of the characters, hardly surprising when authors like Christopher Golden are involved. All in a better title than the original and with some seriously good action, a good dollop of omnibus magic and of course a seriously competitive price this title is one that gave us a lot of pure reading pleasure.

The book, when backed with Tony’s wonderful artwork will make for a fun reading, especially when you get to know the “in jokes” that pervade throughout.
All in a great adventure with a whole host of interesting characters that readers will want to hang out with. Add the secret computer pieces and you know that there’s some real magic about.

There’s romance, there’s drama and above all else there’s a build up for the overall story arc that the reader will be kept glued to until the final page. The tale is a great addition to the series and above all else a story that relies on the characters to tell it. Back that up with suitable dialogue and a careful plan of the overall arc and its been a real pleasure to enjoy.

REVIEW: The second novel by Jessica which picks up a few months after the end of The Hollows. Deliciously dark this title has everything that the teen female reader could want.
There’s mystery, there is a love story but with Jessica it’s the richness of the characters that makes this title. In particular Abbey, who has her own thoughts and idea’s along with idiosyntricities that make her a real delight to hang around with.
All in a great story but with the ending leaving the reader on a cliff hanger the readers will be clamouring for more and I hope that Jessica picks up sooner rather than later.
